Correction Policy

Last updated: January 2026

Malayali Media is committed to accuracy, transparency, and accountability in every article, Web Story, and broadcast we publish. This Correction Policy explains how we identify, label, and fix errors, and how readers can report them.

1. Our Commitment

We take reasonable steps to verify facts before publication. When errors are identified after publication — whether spotted internally or reported by a reader — we correct them promptly and transparently rather than silently editing the record.

2. Types of Changes

We distinguish between three kinds of post-publication changes:

  • Updates — Breaking news articles are often published as a story develops. Adding new, confirmed information as a story evolves is an update, not a correction, and does not require a correction notice.
  • Minor edits — Fixing typos, grammar, broken links, or formatting issues that do not affect the substance or meaning of the article. These may be corrected without a visible notice.
  • Substantive corrections — Fixing factual errors that affect names, figures, quotes, dates, events, or the overall meaning of a story. These always carry a visible correction notice.

3. How Substantive Corrections Are Handled

  • The inaccurate information is corrected in the body of the article.
  • A dated correction notice is added at the top or bottom of the article, stating what was changed and why, for example: "Correction (DD Month YYYY): An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated [X]. It has been corrected to [Y]."
  • For headline-level errors, the original headline is noted alongside the corrected one where practical.
  • Corrections are made as soon as they are verified — typically within 24–48 hours of confirmation.

4. Retractions

Where an article is found to be substantially or materially inaccurate, misleading, or based on a source that is later discredited, we may retract the article in whole or in part. A retraction notice will explain the reason and, where appropriate, the article will be replaced with the notice or clearly marked as retracted.

5. Reporting an Error

Readers who believe an article contains an error are encouraged to contact us with:

  • A link to the article in question
  • A description of the specific error
  • Supporting information or sources, where available

Reports can be sent via our Contact page (malayalimediaonline.com/contact) or to our Grievance Officer as listed in our Privacy Policy. We aim to acknowledge correction requests within 24 hours and resolve verified errors within 15 days, consistent with the grievance timelines under the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

6. Comments and User Content

This policy applies to editorial content produced by Malayali Media. User comments are governed separately under our Content Policy and may be corrected, moderated, or removed at our discretion.

7. Accountability

Editorial decisions regarding corrections and retractions are made by our editorial team. Where a correction concerns a matter of public significance, we may also note the correction in a subsequent related article.
